GO SEE Ghostbusters (2016)

Given the controversy that surrounds the remake and that I recall that DDT had characters named after characters from the 1984 classic, I thought I would ask. So far the reviews I trust say that it is mediocre to average, but sound pretty underwhelming for a studio that wants to create an MCU-level franchise with it.

Personally, I don't want to pay full price for it. 2D movie tickets at my nearby theatre cost $13.25 and five bucks more than that for 3D. Given that Star Trek Beyond is coming out next week, I want to save that money to take my mother to it for a belated Mother's Day/birthday present.

Hey, there is in fact a Dr. Spengler on ICARUS' payroll researching Ghost Digimon! >__> AND the former Captain of SCORPIO Division was none other than one Dr. Venkman! The DDT cameo Ghostbusters are alive and well.

...well, "Egon" is, anyway. >_>; Venkman kinda got died by Shinri during the whole Burning November thing. ANYWAY.

I'm gonna see it, I think. If nothing else, maybe it'll help erase the Hollywood bogeyman that "all lady ensemble casts can't ever possibly sell an action flick!" Even if things ain't that great. >_>;

I dunno that the Ghostbusters in general can sustain an MCU-level juggernaut. o_O; Like, GB2 wasn't my favorite either.

Allow me to put this in perspective: due to Hollywood math as funny as it is, a film has to make 2.5x its total budget for it to be a bonafide hit, or least that what I had heard on other forums as theatres take half of ticket sales. Ghostbusters 2016 had a budget of $154 million, but that does not include marketing. Though I have not seen any figures, I will use Batman v Superman as my metre stick. Sony aggressively marketed this movie in a same manner as Warner Bros with BvS, which had a marketing budget of $150 million. If Sony spent $100 million to promote GB2016, that would mean that the studio spent a quarter of a billion on this franchise. Taking Hollywood math into account, the film will have to make at least $625 million to be a hit and $500 million to just break even. I have my doubts whether Ghostbusters can make $400 million or not.

Still saving my nickels (because Canada retired the penny) to take my mother (a huge Trekker) to Star Trek Beyond when she comes to Calgary next.

Well if you see two movies then you should fucking see Ghostbusters. I will tell you, as someone for whom the 1984 version was a pillar of my childhood (I mean, we had the DDT cameos for a reason >_>;;;), this movie lives up to the legacy. I was laughing basically the whole movie.

I shall strive to see it, then u_u (Though I may be tempted by Beyond first, reviews on that seem surprisingly stellar)
