Oh the references

Vega and I were talking about the various references in Dial Up so far, specifically the tokusatsu references so rather than keep it in IM let's share a few of our thoughts on what references we see.

Now, some of us here are Super Sentai and Kamen Rider fans, so the principle of using cellphones as special devices for fighting really brings us a couple of ideas. I'll start.

D-Phones: A reference to Kamen Rider Faiz's Rider Gears, as well as the Keitaros cellphone from Kamen Rider Den-O.

Alright, go!

^^

This is gonna be fun~!

Contracts: The use of contracts between static Digimon and Humans mirrors that of unstable Imagin from Kamen Rider Den-O and their contracted Humans.

Gotta love the references though ^^

The Digital Enhancements remind me of what Power Ranger's had been doing for the past five or so seasons (I dunno what they're doing with Jungle Fury as the rangers have the ability to call on their chi, they don't need extra) and giving the rangers powers when in their civilian forms.

Hunter, for example, his skin-armor is based off of Dino Thunder's blue ranger

Not live-action Toku, but certainly Henshin, but the references to Ryusei no Rockman are here and about too.

Like the nature of digimon to be electrical virus-like almost. And the use of signals of course ^^

Actually, the D-phone remind me of the henshin devices of Magiranger.

Oh, and Hunter, Jungle Fury has done nothing on the special power front except what was in gekiranger already. >.> It's going to be fun to see how thier going to do Goonger.

^^; Anyway, my stuff's generally choc fulla a couple smaller references, but not too much incredibly specific at the moment. And while that aspect of her isn't derived directly from such, I will just go ahead and say if Junko just happens to be playing the violin, you can just go ahead and insert the usual piece used when either of Kiva's protagonists play >_> Also, a cookie to anyone who can guess where her car's plucked in reference from (I'll give a hint that it's from someone with a somewhat similar appearance to Junko).

And I guess you can say Camille's partner (Zhyrmon) bears some similarities to Kiva himself, though blame Ben for that >>; I had wanted to go with a general "restrained" power motif, but he opened his mouth and compared him to Kiva, which is when I figured some chains and such may not be too bad of an idea <_<

Oh. Hm. Though, my third character.... >_> He is being inspired pretty directly by someone, though ^^;

Whoa whoa whoa...you were the one who brought up the chains-henshin character idea with full knowledge that I'd mention it. So blah on you, Vega. Blah!

^^

On a lighter, less accusing note, I thought the henshin device in Magiranger was something akin to a key and devicer or something o_O

The only cellphone I last remember was Boukenger, so yea

nope, MagiRanger has the Magiphones

DekaRanger had "badges", magi had magiphones, Boukenger has the Accelphones, GekiRanger had the GekiChangers which were forearm protectors (CURSE YOU DISNEY... SERIOUS WTF... SUNGLASS MORPHERS!!!) *cough*

Go-onger has the GoOn Phone

heck. even GaoRanger had the GaoPhone. its been a little TOO popular

*Creates the All Purpose Sentai Phone, the new-age henshin device for generic transformations*

Boy A: All Purpose Sentai Phone! Insert generic henshin catch-phrase here! Henshin~!

Boy A has now become...

SENTAI GENERIC!!!

You know it'll happen >_>

Yeah, the Magiranger devices were phones/wands (flip phones, the middle of the top half like folded out again)

And screw you Ben, even if cell phones are done a lot, the Accelphones were fucking awesome >_>

Little wheels that were used for dozens of creative, on-screen henshins as opposed to typical stock ones ;_;

True, true

but, in the prop-scheme of things, they WERE just fancy flip phones with a big wheel slapped to the bottom

what was wrong with wrist mounted or buckles? why cellphones X_X

The only thing that could be slightly more unoriginal than a cell-phone device for henshin would probably be a cell-phone cross something else ^^;

But I totally agree with Erik. We want to see some "Tyrannosaurus!!!" action.

Still, the magiranger's phone are the ones that come close to the D-Phone.

Well, naturally. But I do agree that they're first in my mind too as far as function goes, since those worked under a "Enter Number" -> "Send" -> Spell Cast principle similar to the D-Phone's command use.
