==Faction Overview==
The youngest of the factions vying for control of the destiny of the Digital World, the Freelancers are a loosely and mostly self-organized group of very disparate Tamers, united by their desire for peace and harmony between the Analog and Digital Worlds, and the prevention of either from exploitation by the denizens of the other world. While they, in theory, are lead by no one, not even [[The DJ]], in practice they tend to gravitate towards vocal or expert members of their group.

The Freelancers of the [[Mirai Archipelago]] are lead by Nakamura Tetsuo and Hunter Vorse, two teachers from [[St. Nunnaly's Private Preparatory Academy|St. Nunnaly's]]. In North America, they are lead by Alexander Vorse, Hunter's elder brother, and his young protégé Warren Bring.

The Freelancers are the pre-eminent Digital World-related faction in North America, their sphere of influence encompassing both Canada and the United States of America, as well as Server Continent.

==Base of Operations==

===Mirai===
In Mirai, the Freelancers previously met only at places of convenience, and had no secure base of operations. However, they have since acquired the '''[[Level Up! Arcade|Galaxy Room]]''', a small-scale "base" crafted for them by the combined efforts of the DJ and Erica Lovejoy's mysterious [[Digital Enhancement]]. It's primarily a meeting area, though it also has a kitchen, a small first aid station, sleeping/private quarters, and a "practice" area for training one's Enhancement or [[Light of Evolution]] manifestations.

The American Freelancers meet in the gymnasium of Alexander Vorse's high school. It is musty. Alexander makes them stand there for hours.

In Season 1, the Crowns were the Freelancers' primary opponents and antagonists, owing to their highly defense-oriented view of Digimon and the Digital World in general, their paramilitary aspect, and the aggressive tactics favored by [[Divine Crowns|Divine Crown Dragon]], who served as the ''de facto'' leader of Crown forces during that time. However, since then, relations have improved greatly between the Crowns and Freelancers, to the point that they find it strange but not necessarily difficult to work together, or at least to tackle separate aspects of the same problem.

The Freelancers have viewed the Daedalus Initiative with fear and loathing ever since its presence within the Digital World became apparent, and are committed to opposing it and its goals. The Freelancers view Daedalus' authoritarian/militaristic nature, general disregard for Digimon rights, and especially their scientific work as abominable and indicative of their corruption. They have come to call the Initiative's Operatives "the Men in Black" or "the Suits".

The Freelancers are wary, wary allies of this mysterious faction; they do not entirely trust the motivations or goals of Kasumi and her lieutenants, yet they have worked together often enough in the past without incident that they feel they can extend a level of trust to their members.

The Freelancers view the Gear Dan as allies, given [[Metal Gear]]'s friendship with many of them and their mutual goal of the Royal Knights' defeat or destruction.

==Network==

The Freelancers utilize the '''Eden Network''', the basic interconnective network between the Analog and Digital Worlds set up by the DJ post-Great Crash. This allows them more direct contact with the DJ and to utilize Blast Mode, but it also means they are dependent on the DJ and his caprices in many respects.

Freelancer Digital Gates can only be opened within network-connected devices, and the Freelancer Tamer must actively "enter" the device. One common method utilized by the Freelancers is to open a Digital Gate within a TV monitor and "jump into the TV".

Since the Second Crash and its effects on the DJ, the Eden Network is almost completely down, with only its most basic aspects active. Freelancers cannot open Digital Gates independently, and must locate confluences where the Network has spontaneously opened one in order to transit to the Digital World or vice versa.
