Yamikumamon are known for being violent, warlike fighters, even for Beast-type Digimon, and are sometimes called the Forest Terrors; this may have to do with their possession of the Digital Hazard, influencing them towards trying to delete and tear through other Digimon; they will often use claws and teeth as well as their powerful Shadowflame, a dark, viral form of fire they generate via the Hazard, to destroy a target.

Native originally to Terminal Forest of the File Islands, they were driven out by the Royal Knights for their violent tendencies, and migrated to Processor and Directory Continent, where they came to the attention of the priestess Sanzoumon. Horrified at their wanton slaughter of innocent Digimon, Sanzoumon bound the whole species with the Cimmeri Bands around their wrists, ankles, and neck, and sealed them with the Tenzin Amulet, keeping the power of their Hazards in check. Since then, the Yamikumamon have largely dispersed, either in search of enlightenment as martial artists in order to surpass the need for the Cimmeri Bands, or in search of revenge on the priestess who "cursed" their species.

Etymology

Japanese: A portmanteau of 闇 (yami), "dark/darkness", + 熊 (kuma), "bear".

Background

Though they are not native to the Media Archipelago, more than a few wandering Yamikumamon warriors have passed through the area, sometimes coming into violent conflict with the natives; very few of them have ever stayed put, as Yamikumamon are either wandering loners or very clannish, and tend to have hair-trigger tempers--especially given their natural evolutionary line.

The most prominent Yamikumamon in the Media Archipelago is Grace, the Contract partner of one Sonny Lin Kwan, Captain of the THESEUS-XIII Zodiac's SAGITTARIUS Division; the Captain actually found her as an abandoned, half-feral Unarumon during his first experience involving the Digital World, and formed a bond with her even prior to sharing his Wish with the Digimon--the moment of their Contract saw her evolve to Yamikumamon, boosted by Sonny's nascent Light of Evolution. While Grace is probably capable of transitioning to a Naturally-Evolved Adult and remaining there, she prefers to remain Yamikumamon most of the time, due to the high Hazard levels and extreme emotional volatility associated with Kodiakmon.

Attacks

Ursus Breaker
A signature attack of Yamikumamon--she gathers Shadowflame into a coherent aura around her body, then blasts it forth into the enemy with the speed of a charging bear. The Shadowflame burns and is able to slash before it explodes out.
Guillotine Drop
Yamikumamon wraps her arms around the target and leaps high into the air, then bodyslams them violently into the earth, so hard they leave a crater into the ground on impact.
Nightmare Rumble
Yamikumamon channels Shadowflame around her claws and her legs, and punches, slashes, and kicks the enemy repeatedly, sending the stored-up energies into the target with each strike.

Final Charge

Wrath of Ursa
Yamikumamon's Hazard Mark flares up as she releases a massive amount of Shadowflame--the dark violet fire becomes a bear-shape twice Yamikumamon's size, and is fired at the enemy from close range, tearing into their very code as it hits.
