Embedded in Auren's Data Core is an "'''Immortality Code'''". This code prevents his ability to reproduce, which prevents his species from repopulating. An upside, is that he cannot be ''Deleted'', however, this does not save him from returning to a Digitama if the damage level is sufficient, and in fact will cause him a great amount of pain to do so, all memories intact; but he is protected from being scanned or destroyed in that form by this code, and his Digitama cannot return to Primary Village. An Immortality Code is both a blessing and a curse.<br/>

Full Bio [Kurotatsumon]

All Kurotatsumon have the ability to use the shadows to move around, and it is referred to as "Shimmering". It is not a true teleport, but instead a Shadow Step and requires natural darkness and shadows to move effectively through. This ability is granted them by being a Demon Dragon-type Digimon. They are able to use this ability while in Shadowform, but doing so sacrifices all Defense for Speed in order to escape due to the required concentration to manage both moves at once.

Their primary home territory was Nightwhisper Caverns, but as it stands now, there are no remnants of them left. A Crypt had been discovered by Nyarlathmon, but has since been re-sealed with his explanation of it being "far too dangerous to go into".

Etymology

Japanese: A portmanteau of the words 黒 (kuro), "black", and 龍 (tatsu), "dragon".

Background

The demon dragons had a Caste System similar to the Umbromon. Their villages, after much time being Hunted, came to be known as "Veils". It was a term used sporadically before the fall of the species, and usually referred to the Shadow-Sage villages as they were usually hidden away.

Though primarily sword-wielders only at Adult Level, they still trained and practiced at lower levels. It was this skill which allowed them to dual-wield the tail swords their Adult form is so well-known for.

At Perfect Level, they ascended to a celestial-based form, using the shadows and the night sky to attack, defend, and attempt to learn and record the species' history in the shadow sky.

Castes

There were four divisions in the Kurotatsumon society. Both genders had equal capability and neither was favored over another for anything other than innate talent. During the Hunts when Veils were split apart and in an attempt at survival, the Castes combined their skills as best they could.

Talonpriest
Though they tended to be primarily Shiroitatsumon due to their Data Attribute, Talonpriests were dragons who were adept at manipulating energies and light to heal and soothe. They later learned to use the light's properties in a similar manner to the Shadow-Sages in order to hide the villages they were part of.
Talon Guard
Village Leaders, Defenders, and Hunters, this was the most commonly found Kurotatsumon or Shiroitatsumon.
Shadow-Sage
Though they tended to be primarily Kurotatsumon due to their Virus Attribute, Shadow-Sages were dragons who were adept at manipulating shadows and darkness. Due to this, they tended to pull away from the others in a village and were often called 'Hermits,' and eventually, 'Outcasts'. They eventually grew to be feared as the Royal Knights began turning the other species against them and pulled completely away, using their ability to manipulate the shadows and darkness as a way of hiding themselves away.
Dragonspeaker
Considered to be a little 'crazy', they were very adept at using words and language.

"The Hunts"

Even before the Great Crash, the Kurotatsumon already held a reputation that was based on their "demon" blood. They were known to assist Nyarlathmon, though they did not have a close a relationship as the Umbromon did it was known that if they needed any sort of help, they could easily ask the Zonemaster. The Royal Knights had decided to feed this fear and helped the species gain a reputation of being 'evil,' which led them to end up running from Bounty Hunters and become desperate for survival. The Royal Knights; specifically, Dynasmon and Lord Knightmon; had perpetuated rumors and fear of their species to the point of hysteria. Digimon of all types turned against the Demon Dragons for fear of their own species and villages being destroyed by them or the Royal Knights for helping them.

As the Kurotatsumon began to disappear, their numbers dwindled far faster than expected. Though Bounty Hunters had become a true threat to the dragons for a time, the reality was that some of the dragons had turned to the Cult of Ragnarok had begun to weasel their way into the dragons' ranks, feeding off their desperation and fear. This was discovered by some of the Veil Leaders, but many of them were deleted before they could warn others. The Crest of the Fallen soon ended up associated with the dragons; despite the fact that it was usually left behind by cultists. Entire veils were destroyed in one fell swoop, and terms like 'Scourge' and 'Plague' and the ironic 'Demons' were tossed around as commonly as their species name until they almost took their place entirely.

The Great Crash

By the time of the Great Crash, very few Veils remained and were scattered so far apart. After the Royal Knights' Rebellion, the sudden absence of Yggdrasil saw th sudden extinction and culling of many Digimon villages and species in a short period of time. Remembering stories of the 'Chosen Children,' a call for assistance did get sent out to the humans that had just arrived in the Digital World, but it wouldn't reach them fast enough.

The last Veil to have existed was located deep within Nightwhisper Caverns and was called "Awakiraka Veil". It held the meaning of "The Lamplight River" in Draconic and was a reference to the hope of survival for the species.

The only known survivor of the Kurotatsumon species was the Veil Leader of Awakiraka; Shugotenshi's partner, Auren.

Notable Members

Scourge of the Western Reaches, Shan-Yu
Shan-Yu discovered the secret to the swift disappearances of so many of the dragons. Having been fortunate enough to notice another Leader being deleted, he chose to investigate what was going on in secret. The more he found, the more he needed to make sure that someone was aware of what was happening. Knowing that if he were to be found out, he would be quickly hunted down, he soon decided to create a crypt in which to leave pieces of everything he found. He made sure that it could only be opened by another of his kind, but created a simple safeguard to make sure that a traitor could never get past the first chamber. In it, he placed a Digimental stone; made to look like a Kurotatsumon Digitama; that bore the remnants of the Veil he had become responsible for as a way to protect what was left behind. He had escaped from his final battle with a mortal wound to his Core, and sealed himself away in the final chamber.

His data was absorbed into a Code Vault as he expired, and eventually became the basis of a special Circuit that Auren took with him; along with Shan-Yu's gauntlets.
The Forsaken One, Auren
It is believed that he is the last remaining Kurotatsumon due to the facts that he had stood up to the Knights, and had been the only one who had actively sought them out in an attempt to get them to reverse what they'd already done. He had done so inadvertently, however, since his reason for going to the Darkholm Opera House in Shadowveil had been for information on how to do that; essentially 'looking for hope when he wasn't sure there was any left. The dark dragon that haunted the Opera House appeared soon after the End of the Kurotatsumon, and fueled the stories about a terrible 'Dragon Lord' that would steal away your children and eat up any lost Digimon. These stories became firmly associating with Auren's story of being 'cursed' by the Royal Knights.

Notably, embedded in Auren's Data Core is an "Immortality Code", granted to him by Dynasmon. This is the truth of his 'curse'.

Attacks

Black Flame
A little black flame shot from his mouth, which takes the vague shape of a serpentine/"Chinese" dragon as it flies towards its target. Making it slightly harder to dodge since it 'snakes' as it heads towards the target.
Nightmare Screamer
Dark blue/purple shadow energy surrounds his body. The aura then swiftly snakes forward in the shape of a long serpent with its mouth wide open; as if ready to bite its target. The effect on the target is momentary blindness or stun.
Shadowform
Less an attack and more of an ability, Shadowform is a variant of Stealth for the dragon. It will allow him to have a chance to surprise his target, provided he isn't given away or seen before he can pounce.

Final Charge

Darkness Flash
Kurotatsumon's body exudes dark power that washes over the battlefield, then shrinks back down after a post, clutching onto all enemies and crushing them within spheres of darkness.
