All Kurotatsumon have the ability to use the shadows to move around, and it is referred to as "Shimmering". It is not a true teleport, but instead a Shadow Step and requires natural darkness and shadows to move effectively through. This ability is granted them by being a Demon Dragon-type Digimon. They are able to use this ability while in Shadowform, but doing so sacrifices all Defense for Speed in order to escape due to the required concentration to manage both moves at once.

Their primary home territory was Nightwhisper Caverns, but as it stands now, there are no remnants of them left. A Crypt had been discovered by Nyarlathmon, but has since been re-sealed with his explanation of it being "far too dangerous to go into".

Etymology

Japanese: A portmanteau of the words 黒 (kuro), "black", and 龍 (tatsu), "dragon".

Background

The Kurotatsumon species was visibly, and entirely, wiped out by the Royal Knights, leaving only one remaining Kurotatsumon; which is Shugotenshi's partner, Auren. As a race, the Royal Knights had perpetuated rumors and fear to the point of hysteria. Digimon of all types turned against the Demon Dragons for fear of their own races being destroyed by them or the Royal Knights for helping them. As the Kurotatsumon began to disappear, their numbers began to dwindle far faster than expected, though Bounty Hunters had become a true threat to the dragons for a time. Entire villages were destroyed in one fell swoop, and terms like 'Scourge' and 'Plague' and the ironic 'Demons' were tossed around as commonly as their species name until they almost took their place entirely.

Auren had been a Clan Leader and had managed to settle cautiously into a hidden village. Being the last remaining Kurotatsumon was due to the facts that he had stood up to the Knights, primarily Dynasmon, and had been the only one who had actively sought them out in an attempt to get them to reverse what they'd done... although he had done so inadvertently, since his reason for going to the Shadowveil Opera House had been for information on how to do that, looking for hope when he wasn't sure there was any left.

Embedded in Auren's Data Core is an "Immortality Code". This code prevents his ability to reproduce, which prevents his species from repopulating. An upside, is that he cannot be Deleted, however, this does not save him from returning to a Digitama if the damage level is sufficient, and in fact will cause him a great amount of pain to do so, all memories intact; but he is protected from being scanned or destroyed in that form by this code, and his Digitama cannot return to Primary Village. An Immortality Code is both a blessing and a curse.

Though all of this was once thought to just be a cruel and pointless whim of the Royal Knights, indications of something more have begun to surface in both worlds.

Attacks

Black Flame

A little black flame shot from his mouth, which takes the vague shape of a serpentine/"Chinese" dragon as it flies towards its target. Making it slightly harder to dodge since it 'snakes' as it heads towards the target.

Nightmare Screamer

Dark blue/purple shadow energy surrounds his body. The aura then swiftly snakes forward in the shape of a long serpent with its mouth wide open; as if ready to bite its target. The effect on the target is momentary blindness or stun.

Shadowform

Less an attack and more of an ability, Shadowform is a variant of Stealth for the dragon. It will allow him to have a chance to surprise his target, provided he isn't given away or seen before he can pounce.

Final Charge

Darkness Flash

Kurotatsumon's body exudes dark power that washes over the battlefield, then shrinks back down after a post, clutching onto all enemies and crushing them within spheres of darkness.
